Wildebeest Arms, The Description
It is always good to know when calling at a hitherto unvisited place of refreshment that mine host is familiar with what he is about. Particularly when he happens to have moved across the county from that celebrated haven of excellence, Morston Hall.
Daniel Smith has now been at the Wildebeeste long enough to imprint his standards and culinary personality upon the place. The result is such treats as confit duck pressed terrine with leek relish and toasted beer bread, and pan-fried seatrout with herb risotto, the local samphire and chervil nage.
Whilst still reeling from these you may reasonably claim to feel a trifle challenged at the temptation of puddings available to you. A balanced and plentiful wine list at reasonable prices, including a range of house wines.

I was very much looking forward to a meal at the Wildebeest, after hearing such good feedback from friends and family. It's about a 45 minute drive, and after arriving 15 mins early, we were told "no problem" and shown to our table. We then waited about 15 mins, and had to call for a waitress to take drinks order. We then didn't receive the drinks, so had to summon the waitress again to bring the drinks over. After about 30 mins, when no one had bothered to see if we'd finished the drinks, and take our starters, I began to feel as if we were being ignored. Especially as the other customers were being served food, drink, and met with smiles! After a further 20 mins, still no starter, or apology for the wait, in fact no interaction whatsoever from any of the staff, I started to complain. Another 10 mins and still no food. By this point I, and my friends were hungry, and getting angry at the lack of respect (and food!) were were receiving. So decided to leave. We begrudgingly paid for the drinks, but experienced no food whatsoever. I am sure many people will read this review and find it hard to believe, and that my experience of the Wildebeest is totally the opposite to theirs. Good for you. I am glad you enjoyed it, however my friends and I were disgusted at what is meant to be one of the nicest dining experiences in and around the Norwich area, and will not be either going again, or recommending the Wildebeest to anyone.

This is a stunning restaurant with a warm atmosphere and interesting decor. The menu was great, varied and interesting, with mains arriving as a whole meal, vegetables included and cooked beautifully.
The wine was excellent, and there was Adnams on draught for real ale drinkers with a nice selection of soft drinks for drivers. The staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive.
