Wildebeest Arms, The Description

It is always good to know when calling at a hitherto unvisited place of refreshment that mine host is familiar with what he is about. Particularly when he happens to have moved across the county from that celebrated haven of excellence, Morston Hall.

Daniel Smith has now been at the Wildebeeste long enough to imprint his standards and culinary personality upon the place. The result is such treats as confit duck pressed terrine with leek relish and toasted beer bread, and pan-fried seatrout with herb risotto, the local samphire and chervil nage.

Whilst still reeling from these you may reasonably claim to feel a trifle challenged at the temptation of puddings available to you. A balanced and plentiful wine list at reasonable prices, including a range of house wines.

What a truly remarkable little place it is. My wife and I stumbled across this little gem, whilst visiting Norwich, The food was amazing, all three courses served with a smile, and as the saying goes the first taste is taken with the eyes, and the way these dishes looked each received the first taste before being set on the table, I recommend this place as a must try, I have eaten in Michelin star rated restaurants that from a food point of view do not compare to this place.

S Clifton (29 August 2008)

This is a fabulous restaurant. We have been there a couple of times and the food on both occasions has been outstanding. We dine out a lot and I would rate this as one of the best places we have eaten at, certainly the best in the Norwich area. The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed and the staff attentive and professional.
