Willow Tree, The Description
The Willow Tree is the only pub in the small village of Barnby-in-the-Willows, and has been around since the 1870s; ales were probably brewed on site and sold long before that. The nostalgic effect still remains and now it's heartening to see people engaged in a friendly banter over freshly prepared food, cask-conditioned ales and chilled draught beers.
A quick look into the kitchen reveals use of local, seasonal vegetables, beef from a nearby farm, twice-fried chips made with Lincolnshire Maris Piper potatoes, peeled and chipped by hand, and homemade ice-cream. Then snuggle down to enjoy some appetizing pub fare - pigeon and bacon salad, mozzarella chicken supreme and lemon cream crunch perhaps.
Bateman's XB is a mainstay brew in the drinks list in addition to a rotating selection of seasonal brews. Put your grey cells to the test on Sunday evenings as The Willow Tree hosts a challenging and entertaining quiz night.

As village locals we eat there a couple of times in a month, depending on how lazy we are feeling or if we fancy a treat. I rarely get past the exquisite fillet steak – variation for me comes as a choice of accompanying sauces, but my wife tells me the rest of the menu is excellent as well. It is very difficult not to have a dessert, often with Brett’s homemade ice-cream and the cheeseboard always comes with a piece of Lincolnshire Poacher - proper cheese! Kathryn and Brett obviously care about the food they serve and the service they deliver; I understand much of the menu is sourced locally. There is always a couple of decent, well kept, local real ales on tap and good selection of wines to choose from. It is rare we will leave having finished our meal without propping up the bar for a pint or two afterwards.
