A venerable pub made from wood, with small separate bars fitted with tiny doors to permit a very limited amount of circulation. If you fancy a bit more room there's the beer garden on decent days, with heaters for cool evenings. The food has been described as some of the best served in a London pub and even allowing for a certain amount of Fullers-fuelled enthusiasm, there's no doubt it's wholesome and good. Speciality is sausages, the wild boar and apple variety, pork and leek, Toulouse and venison. The latter are particularly rewarding. If sausages are not your scene there's always fish and chips, steamed mussels, oysters and a wide variety of sandwiches. The beer is well-kept, the wines well travelled, many of them available by the glass.
