Woodlands - Hampstead

102 Heath Street, London, NW3 1DR

Part of the well-known Woodlands chain with outlets in other parts of London and internationally in India and Singapore; this vegetarian restaurant serves mainly South Indian delicacies with a few North Indian specialities featured. Established in 2005 with five branches now in operation in the UK, this eatery is a popular destination for individual or group dining. The burgundy walls and rough exposed brickwork have a refined yet earthy quality that goes well with the simple south Indian cuisine. A calming water feature and pebbled floor add to the subdued, relaxed atmosphere. Among their signature dishes are steamed idlis and shallow fried dosas made from a fermented mixture of rice and lentils, there are other temptations like chats - a piquant combination of chickpea straws, boiled potatoes, tomatoes, onions, tamarind and green chutneys.
