Wynnstay Arms, The Description
Established in 1549 The Wynnstay Arms, at one time a secret meeting place of the Jacobites, today proudly stands testimony to many centuries gone by and even finds a mention in George Borrow's 'Wild Wales'.
A choice between a contemporary two-rosette brasserie and a café bar serving gastro pub favourites such as chicken and mushroom pie, cod in beer batter with chips and mushy peas, as well as beers, wines and coffee, tends to keep everyone contented.
Fresh local produce is used, including Welsh black beef, locally produced cheese and trout, and you are likely to find such delights as fouillette of caramelised onion and goats' cheese on a rocket and walnut salad, and seared tuna loin with aubergine, basil, tomato and fresh pesto.
Fixed price menus are offered at £19.95 per person at weekends, and a traditional Sunday lunch at £14.95. Seven ensuite rooms offer visitors a chance to stay over in this deeply rustic part of Wales.
Fixed Lunch
- £12.95 (2 courses) to £14.50 (3 courses)
Fixed Dinner
- £16.95 (3 courses incl wine), Tues - Thurs

Your Reviews of Wynnstay Arms, The
Andy (7 June 2008)
I think the previous review does not do justice to the food at The Wynnstay Arms. The chips we believe where homemade as it said on the menu and steak was excellent, as was the chicken and mushroom pie. The management assures that the beef is local and at the prices they charge, we will definitely return soon.
Miss M (1 February 2008)
The menu was shoved in our direction as soon as we entered. A minute later, we were asked what we wanted to eat. The starters were fine and the main meals came shortly after. We waited again for another five minutes for cutlery and the offer of any other sauces or even salt and pepper and had to walk around the bar to find it ourselves. I had a steak and chips for my main course and to say it was extremely fatty is an understatement - chips were not fresh. I ordered a pepper sauce to go with and that was tasteless and when I complained the waiter said he would refund the sauce but not the steak and finished by saying he couldn't help us any further – a bad experience.
