Yang Sing Description

This the place that sets the standard for all the other Chinese restaurants in the North of England, run thoroughly professionally by the Yeung family. Fairly recently re-done, thanks to a fire that gutted it a few years back, it offers not just the normal run-of-the-mill dishes, though these are excellent, but actually shows a degree of experimentation. Their banquets start at £22 per head, and are to be recommended, whilst they also serve an excellent range of dim sum at lunchtime.

Don't believe the hype. Everyone accepts as gospel that the Yang Sing is the best Chinese in Manchester, and one of if not the best in the country. Well it isn't. It doesn't even come close. Sure for a private party or a corporate do they can lay on a good spread, but the average customer off the street gets taken for a ride.

The food is mediocre - anywhere in Chinatown can do as good if not better. The prices are on the high side. But the real killer is the service - there isn't any. The waiters are highly skilled at ignoring you for all stages of the meal from ordering drinks to paying the bill (which I had to ask for 3 times on my last visit).

I will never give this restaurant any of my money again. If you want a good Chinese in Manchester go to the Pacific, and you'll get something really special, and leave the Yang Sing to people who believe the PR guff in out-of-date guide books.
