Yew Tree, The Description
The Yew Tree is a 17th century building close to Highclere Castle, with character, ancient beams, and logs smouldering in the inglenook fireplace. There are a choice of dining areas, which all have linen-draped tables and whitewashed walls. Legendary chef and restaurateur Marco Pierre White is responsible for the menu.
London Pride and frequently changing guest beers are always available, as is a good selection of wines.
Starters may include risotto of local crayfish with fresh grated reggiano; watercress soup and goats cheese tortellini; or salad of marinated artichoke, air dried tomatoes and black olives with proscuto ribbons.
Main courses include roast fillet of brill, truffled macaroni, wild rocket, lemon dressing, crisp bacon shards; roast scottish salmon, sautéed scallops cauliflower puree, saffron new potatoes, Air dried cherry tomatoes, onion marmalade; potato gnocchi with caramelised chestnuts and vegetables a la grecque.

Our party of four booked a table at The Yew Tree. The restaurant rang during the afternoon to confirm the booking. We arrived at 8:20 to be informed our table was being cleared and would we have a drink in the bar whilst we waited. We ordered drinks as requested. At 9:00, the manager brought menus and thanked us for our patience. At 9:10, four people entered the bar ordered drinks and asked that they be seated and they were taken to a table within minutes. At 9:15, we asked the bar waitress to find out why we had not been seated - she informed us our tabled was being cleared and we would be taken through soon - the same message we received at 8:20. At 9:30 we left the restaurant. The floor manager stopped us and asked what was happening - we explained we were leaving as we had been kept waiting for over an hour. No apology was made for this - we left and found a Pizza Express where the service was excellent.
