York and Albany is undoubtedly gorgeous but also offers a complete lifestyle experience with food at its core, and measures up well to the high standards set by Gordon Ramsay. Overlooking Regent's Park, the excitement of dining at the restaurant is amplified by the sheer richness of the interior, and the horse-shaped bar is a real looker.

The menu has been created incorporating ingredients from Angela Hartnett's favourite suppliers and can be described as highly seasonal, varied and uncomplicated. First it could be an assiette of rabbit with fried quail's egg, then a stone bass with caramelised treviso, white bean and shellfish broth with pistou, and a basil pannacotta with warm English strawberries and aged balsamic to finish.

No expense has been spared in designing the ten luxurious bedrooms and two suites at the York and Albany that epitomise the elegance of the Regency period. And before you leave it's worth browsing through jars of home cured meats, cheese and tapas stacked neatly in the delicatessen.
